Tree Surgery Day

The big tree in the back has not been healthy. After something like 4 opinions, including one that simply said "it must come down," we chose the "liposuction" option. That is, cut as much of the dead weight out as possible, and hope for the best.

While the guys were here, they also gave the crabapple tree a healthy pruning. I think the yard looks a bit bigger, but feel sad about losing so much of the Maple tree.

Here's what it looked like last week, when Rosie was just sitting on the step watching the leaves fall.

The tree guys were fantastic -- even chain-sawing the branches up into perfect 16" fireplace logs and stacking (yes, STACKING) them into our woodshed. All of that warm fuzzy aside, here's how sick parts (<--- please, God, just be parts) of that tree were.

I was upstairs staring out the window at the new landscape, not smiling, when I heard a knock at the door. And there was the most delightful surprise -- a cheerful neighbor with an even more cheerful bouquet of joy. Thanks, Greg. I can't tell you how perfect your timing was!

I guess it's time to start raking. Why is Autumn my favorite season again?
