What a month it has been... First and foremost, Rambo is recovering well from his little surprise surgery. He has about 10 weeks of recovery time remaining, but if he heeds the words of his health care providers, he should be in great shape by his birthday! We are all so grateful to Dr. Rizzo and his wonderful staff at Cape Cod Hospital, particularly the nurses at the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (who even laughed when he demanded nitro while watching Curt Schilling blow another save). The day that he went under the knife also happened to be the day that we closed on our new home. In the couple of weeks since then, we have painted, cleaned, changed out light fixtures, had the floors restored and moved all of our worldly belongings using only a hand basket and a cranberry box. The neighbors have claimed that our street will need to be repaved as we have worn a path from crossing between homes a few thousand times.
We closed on Spite House this past Tuesday night. While we are thrilled that our good friend Mike will be living across the street, I did shed a tear as much love and sweat was poured into our first home. I am also somewhat frightened by Mike's threats to hang Farrah Fawcett and Cheryl Tiegs posters in the windows facing our house. The home purchase experience was certainly a bittersweet one for Mike, as his mom lost her battle to cancer on August 17. Donations to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute can be made in Susan Roy's memory at www.jimmyfund.org - follow the links to the "gift" section.
Next on the agenda is work on the garden. The picture above was taken from the third floor window, and illustrates the test that I will have in the coming years to hone my green thumb! I am continuing my attempts to pique Mo's interest in the pleasures of the soil, but can't see it happening any time soon...
