What a birthday present - DickieJ came to Newburyport with a truck full of tools and a full head of steam and was kind enough to stay with us for 10 days while he created the built-in bookcases/cabinets seen above. Not only do we now have our beloved books in our living room, we have ample storage space in the cabinets and even a copper-lined woodbox for our firewood.
We cannot adequately express our gratitude to him for his creativity, craftsmanship, patience and generosity.
It was only a few months ago that I came home from work at lunch and found him installing a fireplace mantle that was to be a surprise Christmas present. As with the bookcases, friends and family who have been to the house often comment that they "look like they have always been there" - the best you can hope for in an old, crooked home!
